The Red River Métis Fur Company Trap Replacement Program is designed to promote the conservation of fur-bearing animals by providing financial incentives to Registered Red River Métis Trappers to replace their damaged or illegal traps based on the federal government’s Agreement on International Humane Trapping Standards (AIHTS). With the program, registered Trappers are eligible to receive up to $1000 for replaced traps. Trap replacement is voluntary, and Trappers are encouraged to use their best judgement when choosing which traps to replace.
Inspection of illegal or damaged traps will be required before any exchange is granted. Trappers must sign a receipt acknowledging new traps have been exchanged.
The program is administered by the Red River Métis Fur Company and funded by the Manitoba Métis Federation.
